CHAPEL HILL
After the Tar Heels took the ACC regular season title with an 81-67 win against the Blue Devils, Carolina fans rushed from the Dean E. Smith Center to Franklin Street, ready to continue the long-held tradition of bonfire jumping, shoulder riding and Tar Heel chanting in the wake of a worthy victory.
Police began clearing the scene shortly before 11 p.m., only to be met by a resistant force of Carolina fans willing to do almost anything to continue celebrating.
Street crews, the Chapel Hill Fire Department and the Chapel Hill Police Department cleared the strets at least twice before fans finally gave up their endeavor to keep partying on that infamous stretch of West Franklin Street.
