On Jan. 18, 1986 the Tar Heels defeated Duke in the first basketball game played in the Dean E. Smith Center. Warren Martin made history by scoring the first Tar Heel basket in the new arena. Since that night, players have continued to make history in one of America’s premiere collegiate basketball arenas.

As the home of the University of North Carolina men’s basketball team, the Dean Dome has seen three national championship teams and two hall of fame coaches, and several decorated athletes grace its court.

For the past 25 years, the Smith Center has been the heart and home of the Carolina Way, and a place where legends are made.

  1. I think Kelsey really did the Dean Dome justice. It's been an integral part of UNC culture for years now. One of the best breakfasts buffets in town, too.
