The NCAA sent a formal notice of allegations to the University of North Carolina on Tuesday, continuing the probe into the football program that began last summer.
The letter includes allegations of misconduct by student athletes, former assistant coach John Blake and former UNC student and tutor Jennifer Wiley. The university and all involved individuals must respond to these allegations by September 19 and submit documents requested by the NCAA.
The NCAA alleged nine violations of its bylaws in the letter. The letter includes allegations that Blake provided false and misleading information to NCAA enforcement staff, marketed the talent of football players in violation of NCAA bylaws and failed to report an outside income from a management agency.
The letter alleged that Wiley provided impermissible academic assistance to student-athletes, paid player travel and parking expenses and refused to provide information to NCAA enforcement staff about these activities.
Seven student-athletes allegedly received impermissible benefits, including financial compensation, according to the letter. Our “Staying in Bounds” game lets you step into the life of a UNC football star and navigate the ethical and legal minefield of complying with NCAA regulations.
