Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that Nicole Suarez was a current member of the cross country team. Suarez was dismissed from the team in 2010.
Three UNC students, a former member of the UNC cross country team and two with ties to the football team, were arrested for possession of cocaine Friday at 1 a.m.
“Officers doing a foot patrol checked the top of the parking deck, (which) closes at dark, and found these three subjects,” Chapel Hill PD Sergeant Josh Mecimore told 1360 WCHL’s chapelboro.com. ”They appeared to be using cocaine…on two of them they found drug paraphernalia, and then they found a baggie containing cocaine residue.”
Shane Mularkey, Nicole Suarez and Jacob Groeschen are facing felony charges for possession of cocaine. The arrest took place at the parking deck at 150 E. Rosemary Street and were filed at 1 p.m. Friday.
Former UNC linebacker Shane Mularkey quit the football team last year. He joined the team in 2009 as a contributor on special teams. Mularkey only played two games in the 2010 football season before season-ending shoulder surgery.
Suarez is a former member of the cross country team who was dismissed from the team in 2010, and Groeschen is registered as the student manager in the football office.
