About

Welcome to reesenews, a digital news publication powered by students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Reesenews is an experimental, research-driven digital news site seeking to innovate the field of online journalism by expanding conventional print and photojournalism, interactivity and social media.

The site has been programmed, designed, reported, packaged and edited by a staff of undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines in the school.

Reesenews.org is the launching pad for experimental digital newsgathering, dissemination and audience research — the mission of the school’s Reese Felts Digital News Project.

Under the hood, reesenews is powered by HTML5 and CSS3 on a custom WordPress content management system.

It is an evolving project where we will be adding features, testing different elements, playing with site design, pushing the limits on story formats and adding even more content areas in the coming months.

You’ll find articles, photos, mini-documentaries and interactive graphics from student freelancers, as well as content produced as part of the School of Journalism curriculum.

We hope you enjoy the content you find here each day. Let us know how we’re doing.
